RAISED BED URSULA IN THE WINTER

Last harvest. Less sensitive vegetables can be harvested in winter. The cover protects the raised bed or the harvest from snow, ice and frost. Only at very low outside temperatures and minimal sun exposure occurs in the raised bed to sub-zero temperatures. Then it is time to remove the cover and let to freeze the soil. The cover can be left outdoor, because it is weatherproofed anyway.

Important: if you don´t remove the cover in winter the snow can push the cover into the raised bed. The cover withstands this process, however, the weight of the snow is very heavy and can lead to scratches on the cover. Generally, the cover should be protected against heavy weight or pressure.

When the sun gets stronger again in February, the days come, where you can start with cultivation. It starts with the placement of the cover. After a few days the snow inside the raised beds is melted and the earth begins to thaw. Now you can top up something garden soil and compost into the raised bed and the new gardening year begins.

Außen weiß und tiefer Schnee, im Hochbeet grünt es immer noch....

Tip: In cold periods you can protect your raised bed against freezing with two pieces of light candles under the closed cover.
